Your route: International relation General information for students Resident's permit
Obtaining a Resident's Permit is compulsory for students who are citizens of countries that are not members of the European Economic Area, (the European Economic Area includes the twenty five member states of the European Union plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein). Swiss citizens are exempted from the resident's permit.

Students from the European Economic Area, Swiss students and all other students who are not exempted from a Resident's Permit are elligible for housing benefits. Students with a VISA D stating that no Resident's Permit is required, ("dispense temporaire de titre de séjour"), are not eligible for "State Housing Benefits".

On their arrival, students who need a resident's permit will attend a meeting with the International Center at the UTT to make their application to the Immigration Department at the "Préfecture de l'Aube" (Police Headquarters). They will need to provide the following documents :

Passport with a visa "Type D".
Birth certificate or other official certification proving their nationality and issued by the appropriate authorities in the country of origin (showing parents names and dates of birth). This document must be accompanied by a translation in French or in English.

Proof of income or financial resources :
Students must provide the Prefecture, (Police Headquarters), with a valid proof of resources written in French or in English.
The Prefecture will accept the following proof of resources:

1) A bank statement in their name either from their bank at home or from their French bank, showing a credit in their favour of at least:
A minimum monthly amount set by the Police headquarters x number of months of stay, (six or ten months)
For the 2004/2005 academic year, the minimum monthly amount which must be made available to International students living in France has been set to 442 Euros. Therefore, the credit in favour of a student applying for a resident's permit during the 2004-2005 academic year, should be of at least 4420 Euros for students staying in France for a year and 2652 Euros for students staying in France six months.

OR

2) A document in which a bank in their home country certifies that that at least the minimum amount set by the Prefecture in view of obtaining a resident's permit will be transferred to the student's bank account each month. This document has to be written on headed notepaper and must bear the stamp of the bank and the signature of an appointed member of its staff.

Sample letter:
L'étudiant, (Name), bénéficiera d'un virement irrévocable de 442 Euros par mois, du compte de ses parents vers son compte en banque pendant la durée de son séjour en France.

Translation :
A bank transfer of at least 442 Euros per month will be made in favour of Mr, (name)'s bank account whilst studying in France. The money will be taken from his parents'bank account.

4 passport-style photographs of yourself
Proof of accommodation (provided by ADPS, CROUS or letting agencies)
Proof of Studies (provided by the UTT)
