Credit courses
Teaching is divided into credit courses (UV). Each one corresponds to the amount of work required (100 to 150 hours) to reach a given objective in one semester.

Credit categories
Every credit course is classed into one of the following categories below. The number of credits obtained by students in each category determines their education profile.

To obtain the engineering degree awarded by the UTT (5 years), students must pass a minimum number of credit courses in each of these categories plus other credit courses from the categories of their own choice.

Scientific Knowledge (S) - 6 ECTS credits
For the common core studies, this category includes mathematics, physics, chemistry… These credits aim to provide the scientific knowledge required to follow the specialised studies in each of the Majors. For Major studies, this category provides the essential scientific tools and languages to facilitate the acquisition and implementation of specialised knowledge.

Technique and Methods (TM) - 6 ECTS credits
For the credits within this category, the emphasis is put on methods - for work, investigation, calculation, and presentation. Amongst them are all the credits providing techniques and methodology to help the students develop a practical approach and acquire know-how.

Expression and Communication (EC) - 4 ECTS credits
The credits in this category aim to improve the students' competence in expression and communication in French or another language. Common core students must take SI10 (Training in oral and written communication) while in their first year of studies at UTT.

Culture and Technology (CT) - 4 ECTS credits
The objective of these credits is to give students the ability to understand the important evolutions of society (historic, sociological, and political), to reflect on the consequences of their actions on the world around them, both as citizens and human beings (ecology, philosophy, ethics), and to learn to express their thoughts in an efficient, sensitive, and personal manner (communication, writing workshop).

Business Management (ME) - 4 ECTS credits
The objective of these credits is to provide the students with a good basic understanding of how organisations function. It is essential for a future engineer to have some understanding of the accountancy and financial factors which govern a business, as well as the economic and legal context in which it operates.

Course Assessment
UTT has adopted the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and its grading scale.
For further information on marks, please click here.

The evaluation policy is one of continuous assessment.
Assessments may take different forms, which are decided upon by the person in charge of each credit course:

Tests and exams
Essay(s)
Report(s)
Practical work
Implementation/creation
and usually, a final examination

There is no "catch up" or second examination session in any given semester. When students fail a course, they must repeat it the following semester.
